Glass fusing is an ancient art form that has enjoyed a resurgence of interest over the past decade. With innovative techniques, and the introduction of Dichroic glass, fused glass is rapidly becoming popular in the fabrication of jewelry, tableware, sculpture and art pieces.
Dichroic glass is a glass that is coated with many layers of rare metals such as niobium, titanium and zirconium. These materials are vacuum coated onto the glass creating rays of iridescence, which shift in color depending upon the angle of light.
The fused glass jewelry pieces created here have been fired in a kiln at temperatures that approach 1500 degrees for two or more firings. Each piece is unique and individually designed utilizing an assortment of Dichroic glass along with gold, silver, and metallic luster. Glass beads, sterling silver, copper, and gold wire are added embellishments. Each alpaca pin is individually crafted, initialed & dated by the artist, Avery Anderson. |
