Alpaca shearing - small herds & crias!

If you need your crias shorn, or have had difficulty getting someone
out to shear your alpaca, llama, or sheep, give us a call!

Calm, gentle shearing and herd health services, including show trims, show fleeces, foot trimming and trimming of fighting teeth and/or incissors.

Now in our fifth year of shearing alpacas, we have been handling, clipping, and doing show trims on livestock for a long time. This gives us the experience to get the job done with minimal stress on the alpaca, and make them look good, too! We do a nice job on alpaca topknots and tails - at no extra charge.

For examples of our shearing, see "In The Black", "Celebrate", and "Impression" on our alpaca listings.

Shearing is done on our table. This is less stressful for your alpacas, and keeps your fleeces off the floor. Trimming of teeth and feet can be easily done at the same time, and injections, too.

Shearing of 'cria fuzz', too.

Additional Details

Your shearing day will go more smoothly and be more fun for everyone if you are prepared:

- Have enough bags for each blanket ("1sts") & neck ("2nds") for each alpaca being shorn. "3rds" can be saved for projects like felting, or added to the compost pile, (animal fiber is high in nitrogen!).

- Label the bags with each alpaca's name and indicate if the bag will contain 1sts or 2nds, or make cards with this info to go inside each bag of fleece.

- Label gallon sized freezer bags with each alpaca's name for fleece samples for fiber tests and to show to buyers.

- Plastic trash cans or storage bins will make it easier to get the fleeces into the bags.

- Have enough helpers on hand to: catch the alpacas and bring them to the shearing area; assist in restraining the alpaca for shearing; gathering the fleece; trimming feet & giving injections; etc.

- If injections are to be given on shearing day, have them ready to go.

Relax and enjoy!
