Fleece Skirting Class (Huacaya)
Next classes will be scheduled in the winter 2009/2010.
Also, available to teach offsite classes or seminars - call to arrange.
This class is hands on as we skirt Huacaya Alpaca Fleece together. Skirting is defined as the process of removing unwanted fiber and debris from the raw fleece, as well as preparing it for show, sale or processing. We discuss the differences between preparing fleece for show vs. processing. You learn to remove unwanted coarse and medulated fiber, shorts & 2nd cuts. You learn to recognize and separate prime blanket from the 2nds & 3rds. You learn to package up the fleece in a bag for show. Handouts from the AOBA Show Division Handbook will be provided and we will review the AOBA Fleece score card.
The class is taught with one fleece that we all skirt together and others for show & tell. Please feel free to bring a fleece of your own for the group to evaluate after the class.
The class is fun, interactive and social. |

Instructor - Jackie Armiger
Class size limited to 8 persons.
Structured Class length - about 1 1/2 hours.
With an additional hour for reviewing attendee fleeces.
Cost - $30 per person.

Additional Details
Instructor's Experience: Along with spinning, weaving, felting and knitting with alpaca fiber, my alpacas and I have seven years experience showing fleeces, with winnings in fleece classes and spin-off classes. We will share the knowledge with you in this class.
