Our search for Celestia began when we became enamored with Tell Hot Shot, a super Canadian stud bred and shown by Judge Jane Tellier. Not only were we fascinated with his conformation, fiber, and color, we found that Hot Shot also carried the same appaloosa gene that had been passed down by his equally well-known sire, NGG Lional.
On the male side of the family, Celestia has Tell Hot Shot as her father, NGG Lional as her grandfather, and Peruvian Bueno as her great grandfather. On the dam's side is her wonderfully fibered mom, Tell Dominique. Dominque's sire is Victor's Vaccoyo. Here is a quote from Vaccoyo's owners, the Fellers of Sunset Hills Farm: "VICTOR VACCOYO is a full Accoyo macho who consistently transmits his phenomenal fleece characteristics of deep bold crimp and extreme density to his offspring. He is a renowned sire of Show Ring Champions, both in the United States and Canada.
This full Peruvian, 1/2 Accoyo herdsire comes from 4Peruvian Starr Khan, son of the infamous Shere Khan from Don Julio Barreda's Accoyo herd. Proud and charismatic, Novio is 100% stud whose presence commands attention. Novio has maintained his fine crimpy fleece even after breeding.
Novio generally settles dams in one breeding and passes on his fineness, crimp, and stature to his crias. Of his cria that have been tested, all boast a micron under 20 (Freedom Ranch's Marleyna tested 17.3 in 2004). But perhaps even more valuable than micron alone is the fact that Novio is vicuna colored, a trait that appears to indicate an animal's ability to retain fineness over time.
Enchanted Hill Little Dipper (Canadian Bloodlines)
Enchanted Hill Little Dipper arrived May 12th, 20008, full of vitality. Her sire is Derwydd Peruvian Novio, a fantastic male produced by two Peruvian imports, the male being a son of Don Julio's Shere Kahn. Dipper's dam, Dominique's Celestia, purchased from Canada, has these well-known alpacas in her pedigree: Hot Shot, Lional, Bueno, Victor, Victor's Vaccoyo and Tumbleweed Brew.
Dipper has wonderful fiber (samples available) that has produced some fantastic yarn (Joanie has knit and woven with it).
Bred to our appaloosa, Bodacious, Dipper is due in late May. That cria has 1/2 chance of being an appaloosa and should be a show stopper no matter what color it is.
Update Spring 2012: Dipper has produced a male cria that shows potential as a herdsire, with great fiber from nose to toes.
