And we thought her mother was good! Alma Rose's dam, Hummingherd's Mi Alma, was Reserve Champion at the Futurity and twice at IAO, then won the AOBA Fleece Show. Mi Alma sold for $57000 at the 2007 Parade of Champions auction. We bred her to the best male of color we could find in the Northwest, Snowmass Royal Rose, and somehow managed to improve on her dam. Alma Rose won a field of eleven older brown juveniles at GWAS as a juvenile, then took Brown Female Color Champion at SoCalpaca. She has now added Brown Female Champion at GWAS in 2006, as well as Best Bred & Owned Yearling Female at both the AWE and GWAS shows. We had to look hard to find a male worthy to be her breeding partner--and found Snowmass Legacy Gold, who just sold for $500,000 in the Snowmass auction. We were fortunate enough to get the last outside breeding to this exceptional male--and we're very glad we got a brown male out of this pairing. He won Reserve Champion in the national show in 2008 (Hummingherd's Legac
We'd like to thank Magical Farms for allowing us to partner with them on this outstanding fawn male. I remember seeing his fleece at the IAO, and again at the Futurity, in 2003. He was Color Champion in both of those shows. He has a very fine, highly crimped and bundled fleece that has similar characteristics to Marco Polo's, our white fleece king. I personally examined all eight of his offspring in June 2006 and was impressed with the consistency of fineness and crimp that Running Late is throwing. His sire Titan is one of the most highly regarded herdsires in the country, and his dam Mona consistently records a very low CV and fineness. Alongside Crescent Moon's Romeo, Running Late now gives us a first-rate breeding program in fawn, separate from our white line. We look forward to seeing what he puts on the offspring of some of our champion fawn females. Running Late will be at Hummingherd August through November. Running Late's breedings are restricted. He is not available for d
Run for the Roses ("Rosie") represents the third generation of stunning fawn females from the maternal line of Camille, one of our starting foundation females. Rosie's granddam is Mi Alma, a multiple champion who sold for 57K at the Parade of Champions auction. Rosie's dam is Alma Rose, a multiple champion brown female whose offspring (including Rosie) won the Produce of Dam competition in three shows in 2009. Rosie's maternal brother, the other half of the Produce entry, is Legacy de Oro, who was AOBA Reserve Brown champion in 2008. Rosie has been consistently in the top group in her class. She has her sire Running Late's fineness and crimp, and her dam's good looks and density. We bred Rosie to the best--Snowmass XXXtreme, two-time herdsire of the year--and got a white female, Hummingherd's White Roses XXX. The cria is extremely soft and has a delightful personality. We bred Rosie back to Levi's 501, who is at the pinnacle of the industry in combining fineness (AFDs 15.0 & 16.9), density and curvature (68.6 & 60). This girl needs to be bred to color.
