Our dear Derby. Derby was the one that started us off with alpacas. Derby was rescued from another farm that was going to put him down because he could not afford the vet bills. Our vet lovely rescued him and performed the necessary surgeries for him to survive. Derby was skinny and scared when we brought him home, but after years of good food and lots of love, he is now fat and happy. He is still shy, but we have been able to teach him to walk nicely on lead. You can cut his toe nails and give shots without too many problems. He has a lot of fiber! He is very dense and shears off about 10 lbs a year. He does not have very fine fiber, but he sure has a ton of crimp! It is bright and consistent. I love to hand spin his fiber. Because Derby was rescued he is not registered. He has been gelded and he is up to date on all of his medical.
