Hummingherd's Cristafina

White, 1116533, Full Peruvian

Cristafina is a cross of a Hemingway Accoyo dam and the 2004 AWE White Male Color Champion, Christopher-B, a son of CPeruvian Ultima. As such she is extremely fine, with great density and full coverage. Check out her histograms. Cristafina has given us three male crias, by Marco Polo, Cochiti and Leviathan, whose fleeces are extremely soft, bright and crimpy. Her Leviathan son is the densest, finest animal we have ever seen on this farm. He should have a stupendous show career in 2010. Watch for him--his name is Hummingherd's Levi's 501.

  Hummingherd's Leviathan
    White, 30353640, Full Peruvian

Leviathan is the herdsire to take our elite fleece breeding program to the next level. He is the son of a very dense, crimpy and superfine Hemingway daughter and Accoyo Poseidon, so his grandsires are Caligula and Hemingway. Levi's fleece is superdense, very fine and the tight crimp and long staple length makes him one of the top white Peruvian herdsires in the country. He took first place in a class of 11 white yearling males in the AOBA Fleece Show, scoring 88 points from Cameron Holt. He scored 20/20 for fineness and handle. Then in the AOBA Fiber to Fashion the same fleece won White Color Champion! Most recently, Levi won first place in the 2008 AOBA Fleece Show in the 2YO White Males Class, a class that included Snowmass Best Man and Snowmass Overture, Rembrandt by El Nino, and Crescent Moon's Shiftin' Gears, males who have dominated the showring and the fleece shows over the last couple of years. The same fleece took color champion and the trophy for Judges Choice at the 2009

Levi's 501 is the son of our multi-fleece champion Poseidon son, Hummingherd's Leviathan. 501's dam is a Christopher-B daughter and Hemingway is his greatgrandsire on both sides, so he is loaded with serious density and fineness genes. His dam has a MC of 17.8 and Curvature 62.4 at six years of age, so we expect this male to keep his fineness and crimp for a long time. He has now amassed 15 blue ribbons and 5 championships in halter and fleece. In the 2011 IAO Fleece Show he really showed what he's made of, beating all 11 Snowmass entries, including sons of Matrix, Best Man, and Elite Legend. In 2012 he ran the table, winning IAO Supreme Fleece Champion, GWAS Fleece Color Champion and Judge's Choice, and first of ten in the AOBA Nationals fleece show.

EPD Alert! 501's Curvature is the highest of all the alpacas on ARIlist, and he is in the 2nd %ile in AFD, Spin Fineness and %>30; 4th %ile in SD and 5th %ile in %Medullation. The amazing thing is, along with his superiority in every fleece quality marker, he's also at the 10th %ile in fleece weight. His combination of fineness and density may be unsurpassed in the Registry. Once breeders figure this out, Levi's 501 will be in very high demand.

501's skin biopsy results at 36 months just came back: Follicular density 78.9/sq mm. Secondary to primary fiber ratio 10.6:1. Mean secondary diameter 16.4 microns. Mean primary diameter 21.9 microns. Ian Watt's summary comments: "This is an elite alpaca exhibiting excellence in all aspects of skin biopsy data. Excellent uniformity of micron in both fiber populations is enhanced by the 5.5 micron fiber population differential which completes the package that makes this an elite alpaca herd sire. One of the best we have ever tested in the U.S. Congratulations!" (7/8/2012)
