Thistledown's Shannon of Cairngorm
Medium Silver Grey, 850923, Peruvian & Chilean
We were thrilled to have Shannon join our herd at Shady Creek Farm as our very first huacaya female. We were starting out small so our choice had to be the top of the line. When we found Shannon, we knew she was the ONE perfect alpaca that we needed to kick off our breeding program with. We set our standards high for this position and she is the one that fit the bill! She's a daughter of the champion medium silver grey herdsire Ben MacDhui at Thisledown Alpacas. MacDhui is descended from a long and impressive line of greys and blacks. His sire, Request the Best, is one of the most spectacular grey herdsires in the country. Shannon's ancestry drips with champions! There is JA Ivan, Aladdin & Wily Coyote to name a few! She has beautiful confirmation and has inherited her sire's award winning density and a lovely, almost solid blanket of silver grey. She's an excellent mother with great instincts, easy births, lots of milk, and beautiful cria.
Shannon was first bred to
Strider of the Shire
True Black, 822386, Chilean
STRIDER, out of two steel grey parents, Amanda Vandenbosch's PALIDEN, Who's sire is WILE COYOTE (grey). Dense, Dense, Dense with great crimp, bone, bite and confirmation plus. Still feeling quite soft as he is now Six years old. Now back in the United States and settling females. Throwing black on black and grey on grey(spot free). The uniformity of the fleece is outstanding.
Gracey, his first daughter to compete in the USA was entered in the New York show, Dr.Julio Sumar awarded her the Blue and Purple Reserve Champion in the yearling grey class.
STRIDER IS THE ONLY KNOWN BLACK HERDSIRE TO BEAT EVERY COLOR CHAMPION AND SOME MULTIPLE COLOR CHAMPIONS, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE WHITE , AT ONE OF CANADA'S LARGEST SHOWS TO RECEIVE THE SUPREME RESERVE CHAMPIONSHIP !
Shady Creek Alpacas chose the breeding between Sterling's dam and sire because his sire consistently passes dense, fine, bright, crimpy fleece and flawless conformation on to his cria . Sterling's bloodlines drip with champion greys and blacks. I have been watching him since his birth, and now he is joining Anasazi Alpacas.
What more can we say about this boy? Sterling is set to be an exceptional junior herdsire, pure and simple. His fleece is amazing...FINENESS, crimp, density, staple length, head to nose to toenail coverage (he has to have his fleece trimmed from his eyes in the fall), stellar confirmation, strong bone, gentle and sweet disposition. His dam is good about passing on certain qualities and the disposition is one of those, along with fineness. His histogram was exactly what we expected and hoped for.
Sterling will start his show career in the fall of 2010.
