Very rare indeed! Iguazu is the Peruvian true black son of 2 Peruvian true black parents. That and a show champion as well! He was the color champion black male at the 2003 Great Western Alpaca Show under judge Maggie Kriegger , as well as the reserve champion at the 2004 Southern Select judged by Amanda VandenBosch. Proving he is not just a pretty face, his fleece was the blue ribbon winner at AOBA 2004. Co-owned with Marcelo, Inez and Adolfo Games of High Peak Alpacas.
A strikingly beautiful fawn female - from black and grey lineage!
Bred to Maple Brook Bolero for 2013.
Neil Padgett of A Paca Fun Farm, well known for the top quality breeding program focused on grey and black, believes Clarice to be genetically black. (Her sire is a black Peruvian, and her dam is a silver grey, which is a black base coat color with the tuxedo grey pattern 'overlay'.) We suspect that there may be a similar genetic effect as when a yellow Labrador Retreiver is born to two black parents. Bottom line: when bred to black, Clarice should produce black!
In addition to her beauty, Clarice's dense, soft-handling, uniform fleece and high frequency crimp has caught our eye.
Sire - A rare black male of pure Peruvian lineage - and a two time Champion! Including the Great Western. Pictured in his senior years, Iguazu, like the famous Black Matador, developed grey coloration in his older years. His conformation remains strong, and he is still a proud, male handsome!
Dam - Dona Sophia is a dark silver grey. According to current genetic understanding, this color is basically a black alpaca with the tuxedo grey pattern.
At Inti, we are focused on white and light-fleeced alpacas of pure Peruvian lineage, but Clarice caught our eye, and the possibiblites for outstanding fleece - and a 50% chance of a color cria sired by Bolero - intigued us!
A Paca Fun Farm has first right of refusal on her 2011 and 2012 crias! We are not even sure we want to sell her, but listed her as an example of the females here at Inti being bred to Bolero.
Clarice delivered a handsome beige male cria by Bolero this spring. She is bred back to Bolero for 2013!!!
