GRAZING HILLS DEHLIA (res champ!)
Beige, 1414202, 1/8 Chilean, 7/8 Peruvian
Dehlia was Diomedes' first cria, and we were elated with her quality. She had copious amounts of tightly curled, bright, bundled fleece. As she matured, visitors to the ranch would Ooh and Aah over her beautiful fleece and frame. AS you will note in the show results below, judges agreed with them.
Dehlia's first cria, Marathon Monday, has the most spectacular fleece we've ever seen. Her fiber stats on her first shearing were 12.4 AFD, 2.2 SD, CV 17.6, %>30 0.2 with a fine crimp and matchstick bundling. Monday is now bred, and we are eager to see what she passes on to the cria.
We held Dehlia over to breed in the spring since she delivered Marathon Monday prematurely from what was probably heat stress. So in February of 2011, she gave us a gorgeous little male from Snowmass Perfection. Obviously, he was too young to show last spring, so we are hoping to get him in the show ring this April.
Yes, in case you're wondering, that is a brown spot on Dehlia's nose...e
Snowmass Perfection
White, 822599, Full Peruvian
Perfection is here! We are so happy to put a male of this calibre into our breeding program. He is a show winner at the National level. He is producing show winners; for example, his progeny swept the juvenile white and beige female classes at AWE 2004...first, second and third! He has won Get of Sire. He won Breeders best Three! And also Bred and Owned for Snowmass! And we at Hummingherd have produced two champion females by Perfection--Delicata at NWAS and Perfecta at GWAS, as well as several other show animals, including a whole line of males with AFDs in the 15s and 16s--and they hold it. Perfection's mother Snowmass Wedding Pacabells, a Don Julio daughter in the Alianza line, is a Futurity champion. His father is Accoyo Legacy, who is now the $1.5 million male! That makes Perfection an Alianza/Accoyo mix..the best of the best. For us Snowmass Perfection represents everything we like in a huacaya. Our co-owner Jude Anderson judges thousands of alpacas all over the US and overs
He may not be THE perfect alpaca, but we think he's close! There are several outstanding traits to this overall beautiful male. One, the crimp in Mr. P's fleece is truly as good as it appears in the fleece photo, and it extends to tail, legs, everywhere. Secondly, we are impressed with the fact that he turned two in February, and you can see no guard hair on him...even in the apron area. In addition to the fineness that we love, he also has superb staple length, great leg coverage, and a very strong frame with a broad chest.
His dam was a Reserve Champion at 8 months, and pairing her with Snowmass Perfection gave us everything we had hoped it would. Legacy shows up on both the top and bottom of Mr. P's pedigree (not close, but there,) and is combined with Don Julio, Hemingway, Caligula, and Bueno. He exhibits the phenotype that should accompany these genetics.
We did find a small brown spot in Mr. P's fleece...thanks to Dehlia, who sports one on her nose...so you may not want to risk breeding him to a pure white female if you are going for snow white. We suspect he will produce amazing color when bred to color.
Stay tuned as we will have updated photos on the listing soon. You will be able to see why we like him...at close to maturity, he is looking very studly.
