Safari is an animal I went looking to find. I had been enamored of the Misty Maiden line of alpacas and wanted to add that set of genes to my foundation herd. It was research in that direction that brought me to Charles and Lucy Farrar at Front Range Alpacas and their award winning, True Black Misty Maiden granddaughter. Much to my delight, she was bred to another set of genes I was looking to acquire, Snowmass Enlightenment. I was smitten by him when I saw him win the Reserve Color Championship at AOBA Nationals in 2009. He was 54 months of age and a working male at the the time. Still to this day, I don't believe I have ever seen more "presence" on a male in the ring. I traveled to Colorado where I was able to meet both Safari and Enlightenment at the Farrar ranch. The rest is history...Safari is an award winning showgirl who has produced fine offspring over the past 6 years. She had a Reserve Champion Fleece from AOBA Nationals in 2005. At AFCNA Continental Fleece Show in 2008,
Every once in a while a herdsire arrives on the scene that turns everyone's head. Enlightenment is just that herdsire.
Per Snowmass Alpacas, "Enlightenment is the most magnificent grey stud we have ever produced". Per the 2009 Kentucky Classic Judge, without a doubt, best male animal in the show. This stunning male combines perfect confirmation and magnificent fleece. He is the "Total Package".
Enlightenment is co-owned with Front Range Alpacas. Beginning July, 2009, Enlightenment becomes a restricted herdsire and outside breedings will be limited to 5 per year at both Heatherbrook Farms and Front Range Alpacas. Until July, 2009, Heatherbrook Farms is offering introductory breedings at $3000 for customers of Heatherbrook Farms that have purchased females or jr. herdsires.
Enlighten your Grey and Black breeding program with the most magnificent Snowmass Grey Stud ever produced.
We really like this young male alpaca. He is the product of a breeding that drew our attention from half way across the country. His dam, FRA Safari is the TB grand daughter of PPPeruvian Misty Maiden; his grandsire, Misty Maiden's Champion son, SCA Peruvian Desert Sun resulted from her breeding to 4 Peruvian Black Magic...do you feel some strong colored genetic building blocks here? ...just wait... Safari is a champion in her own right and the winner of Produce of Dam at the ABR Fall Festival 2008. At the AFCNA Continental Fleece Show in 2008, she took 1st place in 37-60 months class; her daughter's fleece and her son's fleece also BOTH took Blue ribbons in the same show. Coltrane's sire is non other than Snowmass Enlightenment. Most notably for many is his win at the 2009 AOBA Nationals when he took RSV CHAMPION at 54 months. This is a male that exhibits more presence in the show ring than just about any other I have seen. His fleece is advanced grey, fine and crimped from skin to tip. We are fortunate to own 3 Enlightenment offspring, but this young male, from this strong color background has my attention... Coltrane is full of himself! Cocky and proud little macho with fleece to bring tears to you eyes. At 7 months, he was showing us better than 4 inches of staple. He was shorn at the beginning of June and his fleece is crimpy, fine and absolutely luminous. Coltrane will be making his show ring debut at the Royal alpaca Challenge in Conyers, GA November 3 and 4, 2012...Stay tuned for photos!
