The only word for Levi is WOW! At seven years of age he has a micron of 22, SD of 3.9, CV of 17.6 %, and only 3.1% of his fibers greater than 30 microns. We need to keep these genetics going in the US herd!
Levi was purchased in 2006 as a companion for our first lonely herdsire, and since he was not a full Accoyo his growth into a great potential herdsire himself snuck up on us. His ribbon-winning fleece is extraordinarily fine for his age, and he undoubtedly has the very best handle of any alpaca in our herd of elite-fleeced Accoyos. He has a fine topknot, and there is very little guard hair to be found in the rest of his high frequency, low amplitude fleece, which covers his body in fine, crimpy bundles.
Maybe it isn’t so surprising. Levi’s dam was an Accoyo Augusto daughter. Three other full Accoyos are also part of his heritage: Cordero, El Rey, and Chaparral. Add some Alianza with a little Sollocota, and you have a winning combination.
Levi may not be a young stud, but this handsome 5/8 Accoyo male will be adding his super fiber characteristics to our herd this year before he leaves us.
