Katalina's High Spirits is our undisputed herd leader. Nobody challenges her authority, even our largest herdsire, and everyone pays attention when she sounds her warning call, including us, because while it could be for something as small as a baby turtle, it just might be for something as big as a pack of coyotes.
Known as Spirit since her birth, she is just an all around unique alpaca. She will catch your eye immediately in a solid colored herd, since has just about every one of the 22 alpaca colors somewhere on her body. Her heritage combines Chilean with Alianza, along with a couple of registered imports of unknown origin. The colors in her lineage encompass everything from white to true black, making her breedings a true gambler's choice.
Though Spirit throws her considerable weight around with the herd, she is not difficult for humans to handle. She loves her grain, along with everyone else's if she can get away with it, and will try almost any treat offered.
Spirit came to us bred, and delivered a lovely, solid-colored, medium fawn Lancaster son. She was a very good mother to him, attentive, protective, and with plenty of milk. Perhaps it was her position as the only proven female in our herd at the beginning that allowed her to step so effortlessly into her leadership position.
