What a story to tell about Gateway. He was born in the back of the transport trailer on it's way to the "East meets West" auction in New Jersey! Very unexpected, since the dam was not due until June of the following year! He was labeled "cutest alpaca ever born!" and we could not resist! Even though he was a cryptorchid, we were not leaving him behind. His fleece is awesome - the black is even better than the white! His personality is loving and sweet. He is the perfect gelding - often breaking up fights amongst the young males, otherwise, staying out of trouble. Gateway has been living with the mature males for the past year, and he seems to enjoy the challenges of the larger herdsires. They wrestle daily, several times. No-one has ever been seriously hurt but the sound effects are scarey! Gateway also leads and likes to ride in the trailer, this leads me to believe he would make a great PR animal or obstacle coarse competitor. Kids and adults alike love him and pick him out of our field immediately. Gateway is still quite friendly once he gets used to you but he has chosen alpaca friends over his human friends as he gets older. That's ok -- he is still very touchable and not too difficult to work on. Fully halter trained.
