Black as Midnight, sired by the famous Patagonia herdsire, Caballero Andante, is one of our foundation herd. She has created four wonderful crias; three are pictured here. She is a true black who produces black when bred to black or gray when bred to gray. She is a fantastic mother, protective and dutiful. Her fleece measured at 23 microns 18 months. She is a stunning animal with great presense and stature, the alpha female of our herd, and the keystone of our breeding program. She has thrown two silver gray crias, Brittany & Chilton, who are both superlative animals and two true black females, Ella and Florence. All have extremely fine fleeces and exhibit perfect conformation.
After more than a decade, Dusty is still a top quality stud with dozens of crias to his credit. His crias are healthy, straight and consistently carry his signature ultrafine fleece.
Dusty's fiber is very "vicuna-like": it has a fine, high frequency crimp and is very, very soft. He had a low micron count when young, but more importantly, it was still only 22mc at four years of age. Very few studs of Dusty's prowess remain so fine.
Dusty is quite affective with the ladies. He began settling females at less than 2 years of age, and is still known about the farm as a "one hit wonder". When open alpaca females are given her choice among the studs, it is often Dusty that they choose. He is a true ladies' man.
Dusty has produced offspring in eight colors, most typically producing rose grey by fawns, and silver and black by greys. Dusty's babies are also more vigorous than most.
Chilton would be an excellent gray herdsire if you are establishing a gray breeding program. Chilton is a proven male who has now produced two female crias--a ribbon-winning silver gray girl owned by Celtic Criations and a true black girl, Helena, born to our own Royal Black Velvet. Chilton won a second place in halter at the SEPA show and continues to win ribbons in every Spin-Off he has entered. His fleece is extremely fine and soft and a favorite with hand spinners even at his age. Spin-Off judges always comment on the brightness and the extraordinary fineness and handle of his fleece and ease of spinning. Chilton has a proud demeanor and great presence. Big and bold with striking silver gray and white coloring, he has excellent conformation, good bone, straight legs, perfect bite and a classic head.
His genetic heritage includes the famous Patagonia herdsire, Caballero Andante, and FMF's Dust Comander. His sire's sire is The Colorado Pisarata, an outstanding gray male who is still standing at stud at Ore Hill Farm in Virginia and producing ribbon-winning crias. His dam's side is exclusively black for 3 generations and his sire's side exclusively gray, so it is almost guaranteed that he will reproduce either gray or black if bred to gray or black. Chilton is a sweet, mellow fellow, easy to work with, and gets along well with his herd mates. 2-year interest-free financing is available.
