Caligula's Accoyo Princessa

Light Fawn, 836418, Full Peruvian

Princessa is spectacular. She is a tall girl with fire in her eyes. She looks remarkably like Caligula, her sire. She has a big flashy crimp from head to toe. She is dense, and very consistent in her fiber. Best of all, since she did not get white from her famous sire Caligula, she must have gotten his other color from him (which is Dark Brown!). She gets her pretty light fawn color from her Dam, Senora Accoyo Pristina. Princessa is a large, fine-featured girl with dark toenails and dark gums (another good sign of those dark genes from Caligula). Princessa may be one of the finest female offspring ever produced by Caligula. She has fine dense fleece all the way down to her toes. Princessa took a blue ribbon in a huge class (16) at the Alpaca Western Extravaganza 2003, just beating out her farm-mate Olympia. She also helped her dam take third in Produce of Dam at CABA in 2003. She just took a first in fleece at the SEPA show in Pennsylvania.

  CPeruvian Accoyo Express
    Medium Fawn, 816023, Full Peruvian

Accoyo Express is a very impressive full Accoyo medium fawn male whose bright and lustrous fleece is berber rug dense with well defined bold crimp from top to bottom. His cria are hitting the ground- and they are colorful now with 9 black on the ground and one beutiful grey and the amazing thing is that most of them were out fawn and brown dams! His cria are now consistantly winning in the showring. His male offspring are commanding 6 figure sales. Most of his offspring are inheriting his stick strait, muscular legs and fiber coverage. On October 6th Express let his color producing capabilities be known by siring a full peruvian- 3/4 accoyo black cria out of a brown dam! His sire, Accoyo Albus, has had only five registered offspring in the U.S. and Express is the only male he produced here in the States before being exported to England where there he has already won Get-Of-Sire. We are very excited about his rare and colorful genetics. As of 9-23-05 Express has 43 Offspring on the ground

Zoiks! A fawn full accoyo female with CPeruvian Express as her sire and Caligula and Albus as her grandsires. Blue ribbons and color championships on both sides of the pedigree. We named her Carlotta because she was concieved in a trailer in the parking lot at the Empire Extravaganza outside Syracuse. As you would expect, she is covered in curly ringlets of silken lustrous fleece. She is now a permanent member of our foundation herd.

Dr. Warren at Washington University St. Louis is sequencing the alpaca genome. This means we will know the entire sequence of one alpaca and its Carly! Animals selected to be sequenced become famous in the world of geneticists. We were pretty excited that one of our alpacas was chosen to be the representative for the alpaca genome. The lab knew that Andy raised alpaca and asked for 12 blood samples from our girl herd and chose the one that showed the least genetic variation. Carly's contribution to the genome study has been to periodically donate blood, and from Carly's perspective they needed a lot (120 milliliters so far). When the alpaca genome is complete it will be easier to find and identify alpaca genetic disorders. It is likely there are genetic causes for problems like choanal atresia, wry face, polydactyly, heart murmurs, and crooked tails to name just a few. However some of these conditions may be caused by environmental factors as well. Carly is helping sort this out. Carly's life goes on as usual. Of course, she doesn't know or care that she is making an important contribution to the study of alpaca (and even human) health, but we are grateful for her contribution to science nevertheless.

Newsflash: Carly has had her first baby a beautiful full accoyo fawn son. His father is Victor's Accoyo Iron Man. He is growing into a lovely yearling.
Newsflash: Carly had her second cria a giant fawn accoyo girl born on the fourth of July so we named her Apple Pie!
