In 1995 Mike Safley was involved with the individual selections in Peru and we added a large number of qualitative traits to the inventory including histogram information and subjective comments on individual characteristics. These traits were noted by plus and minus signs. The more pluses the better. Other traits were noted in jargon such as snipey (thin face), heavy bone, pink eye (pigmentation), etc. The rating system used in 1995 was based on ten points: ten being the best. The names used were the official ARI names. All of the 1995 imports were PPPeruvian indicating that they were from the third Peruvian, or PPP, import.

TORBIO is an original in every sense of the word. He was one of the original Accoyo Suri herdsires hand-picked by Don Julio Barreda and introduced to the U.S. by Nola Graham. He is the "REAL THING"!
Torbio has tremendous presence. He is very proud of himself, and although he is smallish in stature, he commands the respect of all the other males in the pasture. He is also one of the last males to survive from that importation. He is one of only 2 Older Gentlemen still alive. Even at his advanced age, Torbio has a bright glint in his eye, and a spring in his step. We asked him what age he wanted to live to. Without hesitation, he shot back, "25". We asked him why 25. He chuckled and watched a butterfly go by... "Well, because very few alpacas die after 25!" He has such a sense of humor for an old guy!
He is best known for his ability to pass his outstanding traits to his progeny. Even today, Torbio's fleece has blinding luster and that greasy feel that we all strive for.
This Accoyo PPeruvian Torbio daughter has produced six females out of eight suri crias, including a 2005 true black full Peruvian female, HCA Ebony Joy, 2004 true black Midnight Eclipse and recently HCA Sharpai, a gorgeous Bay Black with a white streak running down the front of her neck off of her white chin (pictured at the right). Currently in the chamber is Sirius Black's offspring, due 12/15/11.
Joyful's production includes: Nina HCA Midnight Our Destiny HCA Ebony Joy Joyful's Chocolate Chip MacGyverson's Pistol Pete HCA Sharpai
In 1994 Joyful's sire, Accoyo Torbio, was personally selected by world Famous Don Julio Barreda to introduce six quality alpacas to the United States from Peru. These six alpacas transformed international alpaca breeder's perception of excellence. Torbio, who is no longer in service, was powerfully potent.
