Black Velvet is a real beauty! She is conformationally sound, with wonderful fiber characteristics. Her fine fiber is crimpy with beautiful brightness...and she gets better every day!
Velvet's color pedigree includes grey, so we were eager to see what she could produce when bred to our black Color Champion, Peruvian Black Lance. Like Lance's other crias, this was another home run...a true black female, Avalon's Black Ravenna. Given the time of year, we decided to move Velvet and our other unbred females to a Spring/Summer breeding cycle. She will be rebred to Lance in June or July of 2007.
See more about Ravenna in her separate AN listing to come soon.
Lace's Peruvian Black Lance
Bay Black, 846259, Full Peruvian
We are very excited about the future with this outstanding male. Lance is a total package: great presence, handsome head, typey/strong conformation, and beautifully lustrous and crimpy black fiber! Take a look at his impressive histogram! This ultra-fine fleece would be exceptional on a white fleece, let alone a black one!
Lance makes available genetics from some of the finest black and grey males in the US today, including Peruvian Silverado and CPeruvian Jaxon. Lance's first crias have hit the ground. All are darker than the dam and most are TB. They have the crimpy, bright fiber we'd hoped to get.
Peruvian Black Lance will stand stud for outside breedings at Avalon Farm Alpacas from June through October. Make your reservation(s) now for 2007 Summer & Fall breedings in Michigan's beautiful Upper Peninsula!

What a lovely lady!! Ravenna is a charming package with bright true black crimpy fiber, adorable head with a great topknot, and nice coverage on a well conformed frame. And her fiber is fine with very appealing hand. Take a look at her lineage...predominately black and grey for 4 generations! Ravenna has the genetics and the characteristics to be an excellent choice for those who wish to breed black and grey.
She was bred to Avalon's Black Champion herdsire, Our Peruvian Black Jag. In August 2009, Ravenna produced a darling 10 pound full term cria...the smallest born on our farm in 15 years! The birth was "textbook" and Ravenna was "the perfect new mom". Her little guy was standing and nursing within an hour. He was immediately strong, confident and totally undaunted by his size. We named him "Avalon's Rocket Man" and he has grown well but we expect that he will continue to be small. He has become our farm visitor favorite.
Even though every aspect of Ravenna's mothering has been exemplary, we held off breeding in 2010 and 2011 due to the economy. This spring we plan to breed her to our champion Tri-Star son, Avalon's Peruvian Triumph, in the hope that her solid color genetics and Triumph's larger size and exceptional fiber fineness and character will be a nice combination.
EVERY FEMALE purchased from Avalon Farm is eligible for reduced price breedings to any solely owned AFA herdsire FOR HER BREEDING LIFE, regardless of owner.
