When Close-Knit Alpacas found Lady, we had been searching for a female alpaca that would add fine micron, brightness, crimp, & basically the highest degree of fleece quality we could find in a female huacaya. This sweet lady has the fleece we've been looking for, and so much more!
Lady Irene's conformation is excellent. Her bones are substantial, without being bulky or compromising her grace and elegance. Our Lady's lines are straight (gorgeous topline!) and her color...it's magnificent and luminous. Touch her and you'll gasp at the soft, "buttery," silky handle.
It has been said, "Her lineage reads like a 'Who's Who' of Peruvian alpaca royalty with such legends as PPeruvian Fidel and PPPeruvian Cordero."
Lady Irene's dam is the lovely, luxuriously fleeced RRA Fidel's Jessica, an elegant white dam with ideal mothering qualities, lots of milk, easy birthing abilities, a loving disposition and a propensity for becoming pregnant on the "1st-take."
Snowmass Nova's Gold

This is Snowmass Nova's fine, dense, full fleeced son out of a Sollacata dam. He's a multi-Champion, elite fleeced, strong boned, balanced & flawlessly conformed male. His maternal Granddam was Snowmass Alpaca's absolute top Black female Peruvian Silent Night. Silent Night has had 2 Silver Champion females & 1 Black Champion Male. His sire Nova is the top black male in the world today & is a true elite black Herdsire. Fiber Test at age 2: 16.5, 2.9, 17.6, 0.6. Nova's Gold carries a high frequency crimp with extremely high secondary follicle density along with all the characteristics of elite fleece. He has the much desired 8+ crimps/inch that top breeders strive to produce. His CURV is 43.5! His sire won Herdsire of the Year '05! His grandsire Casanova held that title in '03! Lineage: Snowmass Nova, Snowmass Peruvian Casanova, Peruvian Bueno, Peruvian Drambuie, Snowmass Drambuie's Kahlua & 6Peruvian Silent Night.
Close-Knit Freedom de Napoleon arrived on the farm on a gorgeous afternoon in August of '07...and on a special day for Close-Knit...
Freedom is a stunning, strong boned young male, built very compact. His conformation is exactly like his sire's...classic alpaca.
Freedom's head shape is gorgeous, too (no, we don't think we're prejudiced!), and his face is covered in whorls of curly fleece! Freedom is so packed with fiber I have to trim fleece away from his eyes so he can see! Talk about "teddy bear factor!"
Freedom is genetically predisposed to having extremely fine fiber. Just look at his parents. His sire's micron at maturity (2 yr.s of age) was 17.7 , and his dam's at maturity (again, 2 yr.s of age and while pregnant) was 19.4. We have high hopes his fiber will be less than 20 microns when he's two, also. We shall see.....
Freedom has large, expressive eyes (under all that wool), a smart, inquisitive nature & loads of energy. He gets along well with the other alpacas, too.
A month or so ago, we panicked a wee bit too early and worried that he only had one testicle (cryptorchidism) which was going to mean he'd have to be a gelding, but low and behold he dropped the one he'd previously held up and it turns out he is actually quite well endowed! Even, large and ultrasounded "excellent" by Cornell! Our relationship with Cornell University, whereby Close-Knit provides most of the alpacas for their alpaca reproductive studies each June, allowed us to have him expertly inspected by Cornell, German & Australian veterinarians. So, this was a great save!
Freedom is a fabulous fleece producer and will make an excellent PR and photo-op boy AS WELL AS A HERD SIRE! He's also very smart, handles beautifully, has a great personality and is already popular with the girls!
Please contact Close-Knit to secure an advanced booking for your best dams with Freedom... He is spectacular! (Histogram to come)
