| | | Wow, who would have believed it! Lace has done it again, but this time the result was a handsome SILVER GREY son from our BROWN herdsire, Snowmass King Crimson! This makes one true black and three rose-grey crias for Lace when bred to black males with grey in their backgrounds and 1 silver grey when bred to BROWN! We can safely say that Lace has proven her worth as a producer of grey crias!
Lace has also proved consistently that she is a wonderful mother to her crias. She is attentive, has good colostrum, and produces ample milk.
Her fleece is fine and dense, but could be improved by increased staple length. Since we know now that she is a color producer, we need to select males for her that will increase her secondary fiber production and staple length. Because we would like to continue to take advantage of her ability to produce grey, we have chosen to rebreed her to our multiple Champion Black herdsire, Our Peruvian Black Jag. | |

| | | We have Snowmass Alpacas to thank for the exceptional pedigree of this extraordinary young herdsire. His rich brown fiber has a long staple length with "vicuna fineness and uniformity, yet added crimp and density." He is strong, stout, and perfect in his balance and conformation. Wow, dark color, long staple length, fiber fineness, density, and strong bone all in one package! No wonder that Crimson was described by Julie Skinner as their "Number ONE 2002 Andean Bronze son".
The Great Midwest Alpaca Fest was our only opportunity to show Crimson before he went into service, and we were delighted with the result! Before awarding him the blue ribbon and Reserve Color Champion, Judge Kristin Buhrmann described his fiber as "uniformly fine, bright, and dense." We look forward to the superior fiber quality we expect him to bring to our colored breeding program.
UPDATE: Exciting news! Crimson's is producing GREY, ROSE-GREY, and BLACK!

Grayling is a beautiful medium silver grey with full Peruvian genetics. His fiber is bright, crimpy, and fine with long staple. Judges Diana Timmerman and Kristin Buhrman have selected him as the first place silver grey juvenile at the Minnesota Alpaca Expo, the Illinois RiverSide Alpaca Fest and the Great MidWest Alpaca Fest. He was also Judge Timmerman's Grey Reserve Color Champion at the MAE and GMAF. These judges complemented his fineness, brightness, long staple, crimp, and consistency while observing his correct proportion and conformational correctness.
This young herdsire prospect may be just the silver grey male you are seeking to build your grey breeding program. He has done VERY well in the showring and the breeder who purchases this handsome youngster can proudly take him into the showring this fall as a yearling and for the next 2 years as he matures.
