In 1994 we moved from the Chicago area to Hastings mesa near Telluride, Colorado. We built a solar home and began living an off-the-grid lifestyle. We looked into different livestock options to maintain agricultural status on our 37 acres. After attending buyer's seminars and the AOBA national convention in Ruidoso, New Mexico, we decided to raise alpacas. It seems most businesses in the Rocky Mountains are named after mountain peaks and we are no exception. Our ranch is at 9000 feet, but we are surrounded by peaks rising to 13,000 and 14,000 feet. We named our ranch after a peak 2 miles away that we see through our kitchen window. Gray Head Mountain rises to 10,900 feet.
