About Alpaca Shire

 The Alpaca Shire is one of the oldest alpaca ranches in California and is located in the beautiful Carneros wine and champagne district of the Sonoma Valley, an easy 35 mile drive north of San Francisco - a perfect location for great wine, bubbly champagne and beautiful, colorful alpacas.
We started small in 1985, with just one huacaya female joining our few llamas and she was the first alpaca to live in Sonoma County; and, I like to think, the first alpaca to cross the Golden Gate Bridge! This has been a long term love affair and we now have the great-great-great-grand-crias of our original female huacaya. Wow!
We bought our first suri female as a weanling in 1995 and she is now a great grandmother (and grandmother & mother of color champions!) so history continues to be made at the Alpaca Shire. It is so exciting to see what each new generation produces.
Raising alpacas is much more than just a business, it's a rewarding way of life and we have made numerous friends over the years and will continue raising alpaca for many years to come.

We are "oldtimers" in the alpaca community and maintain a small herd of 20-30 alpacas. We can help you get started in this wonderful adventure or add to your existing herd. We gladly share our experiences and can help by answering your questions.
The Alpaca Shire is a small, "hands on" operation so all of the animals are calm, gentle, trained and easy to manage. As the primary animal person, I do the day to day feeding, training, breeding, birthing, showing and poop scooping. I am also a handspinner, knitter, crocheter and felter and enjoy creating things from the alpaca fiber and yarn.
We offer before and after sale support and no interest financing. Take advantage of our 24 plus years experience in raising alpacas. All of our alpacas are ARI registered and our breeding stock is guaranteed to reproduce.
