Big Red Alpacas is a beautiful herd of breeding stock that resides at CampDavid, a new farm being carved out of the glacial till in southern Washington County, NY state. Nestled between the Adirondacks of NY and the Green Mountains of VT, CampDavid will provide the quiet, serene setting so befitting a herd of alpacas.
At Big Red we believe that Quality Begets Quality and are working our breeding program to that end. Our primary endeavor is to develop quality breeding stock with the conformation, and genetic breadth and diversity to carry on a long productive life well beyond their years in the show ring. The much sought after fleece characteristics of density, fineness, consistency and yield are the results we are pursuing, with a particular eye to the longevity of these qualities in each animal. These results may be attained through careful, patient, and selective breeding.
We are targeting the production of >/=10lbs shear weight at less than or equal to 22um by their second shearing, regardless of color. We will have our work cut out for us, but feel that the industry will be moving in this direction; we’d better be ready! We're breeding for healthy problem free animals with good mothering instincts, lots of milk and easy breed backs. We had 4 beautiful cria in 2009. We're expecting several more in 2010! If you are looking for top quality show and breeding stock, please do not hesitate to call; we just may have that perfect boy or girl for your herd needs.
As with any selective breeding program, we occasionally have animals that are no longer suited to our breeding goals. Please call if you're looking for these fantastic fiber production animals. |

| | Breeder Biography Quality Begets Quality is a statistical fact taking into account both phenotype and genotype. A carefully calculated breeding program will help our alpaca industry get to a higher standard of type and production with an even greater return on investment. High quality fiber, and production longevity are our keys to success. | | | | | | | |
