...some say it's the "luck of the irish"! But we know that luck has nothing to do with it. At Irish Valley Farm Alpacas, it is our determination and commitment to learn and implement the most up to date knowledge in the alpaca industry. We've done our homework and continue to expand our knowledge, with every new day. We have over 17 years of experience in animal husbandry, breeding and showing horses along with building a regional and national award winning dairy goat herd. Leslie has a degree in agricultural production and management, along with an innate, keen sense for animal husbandry, herd health, breeding and now, FIBER! Bob was raised on a farm that produced cash crops and 200 head of beef cattle annually. His education include human biology, nutrition and a doctor of chiropractic degree. Our three girls have many years of experience! They have achieved endless awards for showmanship and as exhibitors of horses, goats and now... alpacas! Some of you have seen Alicia, Kate & Hannah in the showring and for those who know her, Hannah may be small for her age, but she shows big! Our son, Jordan and his wife Tracy live in Grand Rapids and co-own two alpacas with us. Jordan will soon graduate with a degree as a pediatric ultrasound techician and works part time on the farm, strictly involved in the alpacas. As you can tell, Irish Valley Farm Alpacas is truly a family run business. |

Irish Valley Farm Alpacas is located in western, lower Michigan, 20 minutes northeast of Grand Rapids, approximately 2 1/2 hours from both Detroit and Chicago. Our farm is located on 25 acres, with plenty of pastured runs, each with a place to get out of the weather and a large indoor facility. Since our venture (transition) into alpacas in October 2001, our herd has been up to 40 animals. During the first 3 years of establishing our herd, we have purchased from 7 different farm and as you will see as you browse our listings, we have many, nationally recognized bloodlines. In 2001, we established a 3 year goal with 3 phases. We have been blessed to achieve this goal. Our initial phase was to put together an initial herd of show quality animals with recognizable bloodlines, from some of the leading alpaca breeders across the country, with an ever ongoing plan to upgrade the herd through purchases and breeding. The second phase is ever ongoing and showing results. That is, to continue to research and learn from experienced breeders who are committed (like us) to the advancement of fiber quality, while maintaining sound structure and conformation... and implement breeding choices that will strive to meet that goal. We firmly believe that color is secondary and subject to demands that may come and go with time. To concentrate on breeding that will advance desirable fleece quality, will not only pay dividends in the show ring, but, will also protect the value of our herd and greatly enhance our future potential to serve clients through sales and breeding services. Phase 3 began in 2004 with our first sales and a Jr. Herdsire settling our first female. These phases are ongoing and always evolving, but one goal remains the same. That is, at Irish Valley Farm Alpacas, we hope to let the quality of our animals speak for themselves and let friendly service, commitment and support......... speak for us! Give us a call or stop by at a show. We'd love to hear from you. |
