About SpringHill Alpacas

Image is being processed by ANSpringHill Alpacas strives to offer high quality alpacas. Our efforts to continually improve allows you the opportunity to select breeding stock that is competitive in the industry, in both quality and price.

Offering alpaca products created from our herd of fine fibered alpacas is a strong focus at SpringHill Alpacas. We hand-craft baby alpaca sofa throws, as well as other accessories, from American grown alpaca fleece. Each item is original, so please contact us for a list of what is currently available.

Looking for Show Winners? Fine fleeces? True Black?

We have found that these three compontents are what buyers are looking for. Keeping alpacas of this caliber available for purchase has helped us, and our clients, be successful.

Black is one of the hottest alpaca colors. Black alpacas have consistently been top sellers, and black fleece has a promising future in the growing alpaca fiber industry.

We have found there are three shades of black fiber: bay black, black and non–fading true black. (Also known as jet black or blue black). The advantage to non-fading true black is it holds its color. After being in the sun and the weather, a true black will retain its deep black color even on the exposed fleece tips.

Because of the color consistency of these special blacks, fiber processors can produce a rich black yarn that resists fading and doesn’t need to be dyed.

SpringHill Alpacas believes that herds of fine fibered non-fading true black alpacas will be a primary focus of the industry. We feel that as the North American alpaca fiber industry develops, exquisite true black alpaca fleece will continue to be in high demand.

True Black Breeding Program

Through years of selection, SpringHill Alpacas has purchased and bred high end breeding stock. Most of our alpacas are Color Champions or Blue Ribbon Winners. To achieve our goal of producing top quality true blacks, we are combining high quality, fine fibered, colored alpacas with outstanding blacks, and breeding the best quality black to black.

Dark Silver Gray –
The Perfect Accompaniment for True Black

Gray has proven to be one of the color favorites for buyers of alpacas. We started researching alpacas in 1997. At that point, gray was a popular color. We have followed this trend and it continues to be strong.

Because our focus is predominantly on fine fleece and true black alpacas, our prerequisites for a gray herd sire were very specific. Since grays don’t produce gray offspring with every breeding, a fine fibered gray herd sire that could produce true black when the gray gene is not thrown would be ideal.

When we found Hidalgo, it was obvious we had the gray that would fit our specific breeding program. He is a dark silver gray, with extremely fine fiber (less than 20 microns) and has no spots in the blanket portion of his fleece. A spot free blanket is important since we want to avoid producing blacks with inconsistent coloring. His dam is a non-fading true black full Bolivian, thus giving Hidalgo his true black genetic base and overall quality. His sire was a nationally known silver gray.

Hidalgo is proudly co-owned and travels between Texas (Windmill Crest Farms) in the winter and Oregon (Chappell's Alpaca Junction) in the summer.
