Herd reduction sale due to health - Its looking like I may have to have neck and back surgery so I'm running a special sale to reduce my herd by 10 females, so it will be more managable for my non-alpaca neighbors to take care of. I also want to raise a little cash to tide me over while I'm in recovery.
I have reduced my female herd by seven (7), so I have three (3) more to go!
Hurricane Alpacas is a young farm established in 2003. Although started as a small family farm in South Carolina, until recently about half of the Hurricane herd was boarded in Canada. I am focused on making a long-term difference in the industry by working in partnership with other small farms. I feel it is critical to help new alpaca farmers build their herds using sound breeding practices and I am always willing to share my ideas with new farmers and listen to the ideas they have. As a farmer, it is important that all my relationships within the industry are of the highest ethical standards.
I am always available to talk over ideas with any farmers or potential farmers looking for additional information.

Although new to alpacas, I personally have an extensive background in breeding top winning Chinook dogs through my Hurricane Chinooks kennel. Over its 20-year history, I have produced, owned or co-owned the winners of the Chinook National Specialty for eight of the last fifteen years. My Chinooks have been consistently in the UKC Top Ten list and in 2006 a Chinook I bred and own was selected as one of the top 20 dogs in UKC. I am using my background in developing award winning Chinooks to build a genetically sound alpaca breeding program of continuous improvement and I am interested in helping other family alpaca farms do the same.
My farm has grown from 8 alpacas to 39 alpacas, plus the 15 I've sold, in five years, with most of the alpacas at Hurricane Alpacas being dual registered. I am focusing on a model of continuous improvement in each generation so that I can meet my goals for producing high quality alpacas.

| | Breeder Biography Joyce Maley entered the alpaca business in 2003 following a successful career as an Air Force officer. She believes that the small alpaca farm can give families a return to a rural lifestyle based on strong ethics and community support, in addition to providing a significant financial reward. Joyce is applying what she learned as a successful dog breeder to her alpaca program. Her farm, Hurricane Alpacas, has grown from 8 alpacas to 37 in just 5 years, while selling another 11 along the way. | | | | | | | |
