About Alpacas of Riverside Farm

Image is being processed by ANA small farm in the mountains of western North Carolina, we raise Suri alpacas with personality. Our foundation herd has superior genetics from around the country (Prince of Ghiradelli, Suri King, Fuego), bred to the new generation of herdsires, as well as few old favorites like Membrillo, Fine Threads, and King Accoyo Solomon. We are breeding for fineness, luster, and consistency, as well as correct conformation.

We are less than 6 years old, with a wooden barn and fencing we built ourselves. This is a very hands-on operation; just the two of us, 'with a little help from our friends' and family. We began with 3 females and a gelding and have grown to 13.

As long-time city dwellers we were very enthusiastic about leaving the pavement and the rat-race behind and immersing ourselves in a pastoral lifestyle. As a teacher and an artist, we were driven to learn everything about alpaca husbandry and care and about the cottage and commercial industry involving their luxurious fiber - the underpinning of our industry. We began our formal education, and then dove in 6 years ago. We've been operating our own farm as a part-time business, and have been actively involved within the alpaca owners' community ever since. We truly enjoy sharing our experiences and knowledge with anybody wanting to know more about these wonderful animals and this exciting industry. We welcome guests to come to our farm and learn hands-on with us and our resident alpacas.

Sue and Lyle entered their first show in April, 2007. Taking the 3 babies, Hippolyta, Flute, and Cobweb to the PALMETTO CLASSIC they all did very well, garnering a First and 2 Seconds in their categories. The 2 girls and boy were amazingly well-behaved and received great comments from their judges. The Baskins feel good about their breeding program and attended a number of shows, including Carolina Classic, Southern Select, and Sunshine State, during the next 2 years gathering a total of a dozen ribbons.

Please come amd visit our small farm. We want you to meet our girls and we want to meet you.
