Founded in 1995 Storm Haven Alpacas is located at Americas crossroads just 15 miles east of Oklahoma City 4 miles North of I-40 among the rolling sand hills and blackjack oaks of Oklahoma. Owned and operated by Karon and George Storm, Storm Haven Alpacas believes everyone should have the opportunity to experience the joy of owning alpacas. To that end we offer qualtiy alpacas at affordable prices. We have 12 years experience and full customer support to offer our clients. Karon is a full time alpaca rancher, is president of Alpacas of Oklahoma (A-OK) affliate and has been superintendent of 6 alpacas shows, the last was thelevel III A-OK Alpaca Blast Off held in Shawnee Oklahoma January 2007.George is a civil engineer for the city of Oklahoma City. In our many years with alpacas the most noteworthy adventure was the May 1999 F-5 tornado that ripped through Oklahoma. On that day our name, "Storm Haven" was most appropriate. Thanks to advanced weather forcasting we became aware of this monster heading our way in time to take action to protect the alpacas. With the help of neighbors who came seeking safety with us we brought the alpacas into our earth shelter home. Starting with the crias then the girls and lastly the boys we got them all inside except one male that refused to be caught, the wind was howling, time ran out and we had to leave him to his fate. The alpacas took it all in stride and behaved well, we only had one spot of spit on the wall and a few beans when it was over. The girls were barracaded in a front hall and could see the television which they seemed to enjoy watching until the electicity went out, then we all sat in the dark with a few candles listening to the radio weather bulletins, the alapcas humming and a menagerie of dogs and cats sorting out various issues. Fortunatly the big tornado took a turn and missed us so all we lost were a few tree tops and the lone male was fine. Come visit and let us help you find how great alpacas a |
