When I started my career in the financial services business some 30+ years ago I was taught, by a great company, to serve my clients first. I built one business with that philosophy and now I have entered into the alpaca business with the same philosophy - to serve your needs first. Getting to know you and what your goals and objectives are is the first step in our process. Gathering the necessary information as to where you are in your business, looking at your business plan or helping you create one, considering what your budget is and what you want from your herd in the short term and in the long term are all important to beginning our relationship. Combine that with some of the best genetics in the industry creates a winning combination for you the client and us as providers and breeders. Our Friendship and Service follows. |

Fiber - Fiber - Fiber
Our animals are listed by what they produce. We collect data from a variety of sources to evaluate our fiber: sort reports, fiber statistics and our own, hands on evaluation. The fleece of an alpaca is priced by grade and weight. A smooth feel and lustrous appearance are characteristic of the best grades of alpaca. Important factors include: fineness; uniformity of the fibers within the fleece and lack of coarse, straight 'guard hair'. These factors are all key to the comfort of garments made from a natural fiber, and the price it will bring. Their genetics are important in getting them to that point but fiber is the end point of this game called alpaca breeding.
Our goal at OWL Acres is to create consistent fiber at 20 microns or less with animals that shear 20 pounds or more of fiber with a lack of guard hair.
Give us a call - come visit our farm and see how we began and how we have been able to grow and improve our herd. Perhaps we can help you do the same. |
