AlpacaNation: How long have you been in the alpaca business?
Lost River Alpacas : Lost River Alpacas was established in 1998 with the purchase of our first 6 alpacas.
AlpacaNation: How did you become interested in alpacas?
Lost River Alpacas : I was reading a Sunset magazine in the doctor's office, and saw an add for alpacas. I'd never seen anything like it in my life. So, we started researching and visiting farms.
AlpacaNation: How did you decide on your farm name? Is there a special meaning behind the name?
Lost River Alpacas : The Nooksack River used to run through our property, prior to the ice age. The melting glaciers resulted in a log jam which diverted the course of the river from the north into the Fraser River in Canada, to the south to Bellingham Bay. The remains of the river survived in the form of an oxbow slough, which doubles back through out property twice. When the Nooksack floods, the river returns to the slough. On November 6, 2006, the river was flowing just 20 feet from the barn.
