AlpacaNation: How long have you been in the alpaca business?
Affaire de Coeur Alpacas: We purchased our first alpacas in 2003.
AlpacaNation: How did you become interested in alpacas?
Affaire de Coeur Alpacas: We were looking for an animal for our daughter to use in a future 4H or FFA project. We started out looking at llamas, which our daughter who was six years old at the time, quickly vetoed as being too big. It wasn't long before we found alpacas, exactly what we'd been looking for all along!
AlpacaNation: How did you decide on your farm name? Is there a special meaning behind the name?
Affaire de Coeur Alpacas: Affaire de Coeur is french for "affair of the heart". It describes perfectly the way we feel about alpacas and this business.
AlpacaNation: What is your greatest achievement or favorite memory since you started raising alpacas?
Affaire de Coeur Alpacas: Earlier this year (2006) one of our juvenile female suris won a first and fawn color championship. We were stunned! What made this win so special was breeding this little girl on our own farm. What a great sense of accomplishment.
AlpacaNation: Do you have a favorite Alpaca? Why is it your favorite?
Affaire de Coeur Alpacas: Emily is our family favorite. She was the first born on our ranch on my brother's birthday. She comes when you call her and has always been a sweet huggable girl. She belongs to my daughter and we hope that her cria will finance her college education someday.
