AlpacaNation: How long have you been in the alpaca business?
Whisper Soft Alpaca Farm: About 2 1/2 years
AlpacaNation: How did you decide on your farm name? Is there a special meaning behind the name?
Whisper Soft Alpaca Farm: This may sound strange to some, but I have three dogs that are all very special to me. Two are AMSTAFF Terriers(American Stafford shire Bull Terrier)one which is deaf. They started fighting amongst themselves, so not to lose one or get hurt, I gave one up to a good friend for their own safety. Her name was Whispers and she was special! Whispers belong to my husband who is no longer with us. To me it is away to keep them both a part of my life, my husband would have loved the alpacas!
AlpacaNation: How did you become interested in alpacas?
Whisper Soft Alpaca Farm: I have always loved the Llamas! I stop at a neighbors house looking to buy a pet Llama. When I went to the library to see about the care of Llamas I discovered ALPACAS!
AlpacaNation: What is your greatest achievement or favorite memory since you started raising alpacas?
Whisper Soft Alpaca Farm: My favorite memory so far has been seeing my first cria and it was a GIRL!
AlpacaNation: Describe your first alpaca purchase... would you do anything differently today?
Whisper Soft Alpaca Farm: I had looked at alpacas for 6 months. Went to some farms that where close by and found one that needed her cria's bottle feed. Being innocent to the facts, I wanted that one because it need special attention. I also saw clouds shape like an alpaca the day I went to buy my first alpaca. That was my sign! I would not change a thing!
AlpacaNation: How do you see your farm and alpaca business growing over the next 5 to 10 years?
Whisper Soft Alpaca Farm: I bought 9 Acres (in 2004) and would like to have 45 to 50 alpacas. Alpacas paying my bills and having a prosperous business out of my home. Selling some retail, doing education class, and maybe even doing some hand crafts.
AlpacaNation: What advice would you give to those just getting started in the industry?
Whisper Soft Alpaca Farm: See as many farms as you can and ask a lot of question.
AlpacaNation: Do you have a favorite Alpaca? Why is it your favorite?
Whisper Soft Alpaca Farm: All alpacas are my favorite. But my Carrizozo is my most friendly. He is almost like having a dog, almost!
