AlpacaNation: How long have you been in the alpaca business?
Misty Morning Alpacas: We have been in the alpaca business for 5 years now. After we first discovered alpacas in July of 2004, we jumped into it pretty quickly. We purchased our first alpacas by the end of August of 2004. We got our animals in November and the rest is history.
AlpacaNation: How did you become interested in alpacas?
Misty Morning Alpacas: Steve and I had always wanted to own a farm and live in the country. When we had the opportunity to purchase our place we had to decide what we wanted to do with it. We had stables and large barn with 15 acreas. We knew we couldn't waste these resources. Not being able to decide how to utilize the place, we decided to subscribe to Hobby Farm Magazine thinking we might get some ideas. The very first issue we received featured alpacas on the cover. Our first question was "What are these?" After reading the articles, we did our own research, began visiting farms, and now here we are.
AlpacaNation: How did you decide on your farm name? Is there a special meaning behind the name?
Misty Morning Alpacas: On naming our place, we tried to capture the essence of the farm. We had many a morning where we awoke to a beautiful fog over the place. It just seemed appropriate the we name the place Misty Morning.
AlpacaNation: What sets your farm and herd apart from others in the industry?
Misty Morning Alpacas: We believe that we are set apart from other farms in the industry because of our desire to help new people in the industry. We feel very strongly about wanting to be mentors to those who are new to alpacas because there is such a huge learning curve. New breeders need someone that they feel comfortable with to ask questions and ask for help whenever they need it. If we can help someone feel more at ease with their new business venture, then that is our goal.
