AlpacaNation:  How did you become interested in alpacas?

Hawks Willow Ranch Alpacas, LLC:  We wanted to find a way to prepare for our retirement and at the same time get involved in a lifestyle that was more relaxing and suited to our personalities.

AlpacaNation:  How did you decide on your farm name? Is there a special meaning behind the name?

Hawks Willow Ranch Alpacas, LLC:  The sign of the "Hawk" is Howard's indian animal Totem (protector). "Willow" is Leah's favorite tree, and "Ranch" is expansive.

AlpacaNation:  Describe your first alpaca purchase... would you do anything differently today?

Hawks Willow Ranch Alpacas, LLC:  Our first purchase was done with a farm in upstate NY. We were so taken by these beautiful creatures that we did not do our research on the breeder. We would still have purchased alpacas, but we would have done more research!

AlpacaNation:  What sets your farm and herd apart from others in the industry?

Hawks Willow Ranch Alpacas, LLC:  Because we started out small and have maintained steady growth, we have learned as we grow. We have learned our animals vet needs and developed individual relationships with each animal. In keeping with our initial plan to breed for the "spirit" of the alpaca we have been able to breed our females to herdsires owned by other breeders who have the similar philosophies as ours.

AlpacaNation:  What is your greatest achievement or favorite memory since you started raising alpacas?

Hawks Willow Ranch Alpacas, LLC:  Each day brings another favorite memory, but the one that comes to mind is when we lost a cria - I know that sounds odd, but in loosing the cria (Nashville) we learned just how much of a family these animals are to each other and that any time spent on this earth is precious. We would love the opportunity to share this story with you, so please give us a call.
