AlpacaNation:  How long have you been in the alpaca business?

AleGria Alpacas, LLC:  We began in April 2007 after 5 years of research and information hunting. We are new, but feel as though we have been around a bit longer since we have been preparing and planning the farm for quite some time now.

AlpacaNation:  How did you become interested in alpacas?

AleGria Alpacas, LLC:  I saw an alpaca in a parade and later got to meet him and his owner. That was all it took. From that point on, I knew Alpacas were going to be the answer to my desire to have a farm. I was struggling with having to take my "goods" to market and just couldn't do it. Alpacas offered me the chance to do what I have always dreamed without the end result being a negative one.

AlpacaNation:  How did you decide on your farm name? Is there a special meaning behind the name?

AleGria Alpacas, LLC:  Alegria means Joyfulness or Happiness in Spanish and I thougth that was an appropriate name for the farm. Especially after the life long search for the right type of farm where everything just fell into place. Happiness.

AlpacaNation:  What advice would you give to those just getting started in the industry?

AleGria Alpacas, LLC:  Do your homework. Always check the lineage of the animals you intend to buy and buy the best quality animals that you can afford.
Check with many farms, not just one or two. I have found that every farm has a little different way of doing things and the more you learn early on, the better you will do in the long run.
Keep some funds available for marketing. Dont spend it all on the farm and the animals. If no one knows you are there, it doesnt matter how nice your herd is if they can see you.
