AlpacaNation:  How did you decide on your farm name? Is there a special meaning behind the name?

Log Cabin Farm Alpacas LLC:  We started out as "Log Cabin Farm Organic Produce" and our main house is a 30 year old cedar log cabin built aside a grassy meadow in the rolling hills of East Albany Vermont. We already owned the web address www.logcabinfarm.com so we figured we would keep the continuity going...

AlpacaNation:  How long have you been in the alpaca business?

Log Cabin Farm Alpacas LLC:  We purchased our first three alpacas in September of 2007

AlpacaNation:  How did you become interested in alpacas?

Log Cabin Farm Alpacas LLC:  Found the lifestyle and characteristics of the animal to be in favor with our desire to slow down and smell the roses... ie, enjoy life for a change and retire from the corporate rat race. The fun of shows, the comradeship of fellow breeders, and the lifestyle that breeding alpacas allows us, can't be beat.

AlpacaNation:  What steps did you take to prepare for raising an alpaca herd?

Log Cabin Farm Alpacas LLC:  After we decided we were going into the "alpaca business", we read every book we could find and talked to as many alpaca people to get different opinions as we could. Before we moved our alpacas onto the farm, we had to build the paddock and pasture fences. Then the barn was too small and that needed additions added on. We had to run electricity and water to the barn for all season care. We had experts sample our pasture soils for mineral deficiencies and added lime as needed. We are continually working our fields to improve on them and will be adding even more acreage as the herd expands.
