This past summer our faithful 8 year old metal rakes finally gave up the ghost. This started a months long search for a decent, durable rake that met the necessary criteria for a good poop rake. You know what I mean--tines close together, stiff enough to rake through grass but flexible enough to not break when raking up the poop the alpacas tramped through, etc. In desperation we ended up settling for a couple of plastic leaf rakes. I really did not like these rakes and getting frustrated twice a day with them is not my idea of fun, so I started looking on the internet. I couldn't find anything that looked exactly like our original rakes, but I did find something that looked similar. I ordered two of the heads to try. I absolutely love these new rakes! They are even better than our old metal rakes--heavier duty yet more flexible, does less flipping of the beans like ping pong balls, etc. They are made by Flexrake here in the U.S. and the model number is #1. The plastic rakes have been reassigned to raking up stray hay on the floor.

I buy the Flexrakes at one of our local garden centers, $18, but with a wooden handle, which is preferable to aluminum in the winter. Gave one to a friend, and she calls it the Turbo poop rake. They are terrific!
As for scooping in winter, I find that putting down a light layer of Woody Pet that has been wetted down and allowed to crumble helps -- I rake it around in the dung piles in the evening so they will freeze quickly. Then in the AM, it's easier to rake up the frozen beans. Sometimes I use a metal snow shovel or even a hoe to get up anything frozen hard to the ground, but the woody pet really helps prevent that most of the time.
I must say, I'm not minding the lack of snow when it comes to manure management, as this is the first year in many that I am not doing the deep pack bedding.

Yes, Ruthann, we do alot of frozen beans here in Ohio, too. Maybe not as much as in Montana, but still our fair share!

Ok, well it's $39 !!! That is too much. I use the plastic rake at Lowes that costs $9.99. Not the greatest rake, but it does the job. MaryJane do you really think it is worth $39??

Found them online -- but I do a lot of scraping of partially frozen beans -- do you think they will last? I have 2 old rakes that are falling apart literally and can't find anything like them.
