The primary drinking water tank has gotten slimy and nasty. I scrub it out periodically, but have never used anything other than a little elbow grease. The scrubbing gets mosts of the really nasty stuff out, but there is always a slimy feel to the sides and bottom. I've thought about using bleach to clean it, but am worried that if I don't get it rinsed thoroughly, that the bleach might harm my alpaca's gut germies. Anyone have thoughts or suggestions?

I had the same concern so I changed my water tank to use a solenoid on an outdoor timer to turn on the hose for 1 minute every day to fill and rinse the container, instead of using a float valve.
I'm using a 120V 3/4" Parker soldenoid, model 12F25C2148ACF4C05, and a Sylvania SA310 outdoor industrial timer (usually used as a pool timer, outdoor lights, etc).
I like this setup a LOT better since the excess water makes the gunk swirl around and splash over the top of the container, leaving clean water inside. The runoff waters the plants. |

Mine seem to hate vinegar. I have heard some add it to the water for the extra vitamins, but mine won't even consider that.
