I gave the cdt for years, but now think I am going to just give the Tetanus Toxoid shot instead of adding the c and d since it appears that that is not necessary. Has anyone else used just the Tetanus shot? I got one from PBS and it has directions for horses goats, sheep and pigs, but not for alpacas. How much should I give a cria that is one month old and one that is four months old. Neither has had a tetanus shot before. If it goes by weight, I can weigh them since I have a scale.

Hi, I have heard that our herds don't need the C & D since the only type of Clostridium Evans reported seeing in alpacas was Type A. I have always given 2ml of the CDT. I don't know about the dosage on "straight" Tetanus I am sure others will chime in here. But I do know that vaccines are not given by weight like Vitamins and Wormers etc. they are given by the amount needed to immunize the animal. For example I give my crias 2ml CDT and adults the same amount.
I called my vet and was told to give 1cc of the tetanus toxoid. I think I will check with OSU on Monday, I want to be sure they are vaccinated properly since this is the first time I'm using this instead of the CDT.
