What's the definition of drive-by and/or mobile breeding?

Thanks,
Paul

A driveby breeding is when you take your female to the Herdsires farm for the breeding and then take her back. She does not stay at the farm. Mobile breedings are when the Herdsire is brought to your farm for the breeding and then leaves afterward.

Oh dear. I've been calling them just the opposite! My male does a drive-by... wham bam thank you mam. My female would be mobile.

I love this industry!

I have always thought "drive-by breeding" had a shady lady from the red light district feeling, while "mobile breeding" has a very manly, military sound to it. Whether it is the guy moving or the girl, I call them car dates (my vet reminded me to bring flowers when one of my herdsires had his very first date).

I wonder who originally came up with these terms?

Here I thought a "drive by" was when either the male or female was taken to the other and then returned home right afterwards and a mobile breeding was the same thing but also included such events as meeting at a show or other agreed upon location.

We must have an Alpaca Dictionary.

Hey, Rick! How about it? Give us the real story.

Nancy,

The phrase "Mobile Breeding" was made popular by a man named Harry Rudzitis about 8 years ago. Harry started up a mobile alpaca breeding business. He was located in Ohio and owned Haldane for a while, who was part of this Mobile breeding program. Harry set up booths at many shows for a couple years spreading the word. Harry has since went out of business.
Anyway, that is what I know of the term Mobile breeding
