This is truly lazy I will admit, but I got so used to using Ricks cria calculators, and I am really missing the one that you put the breeding date in, and it tells you how many days the mom is pregnant. I used to check to see how far away I was from the "safe" zone of 320-330 days that the cria had a chance to survive. I see lots of due date calcs but not one of these. Does anyone have one or know if there is one online? Thanks

Susan,
Take the breeding date and subtract whatever date you want to be at from 365 it should give you what you need. For example bred on May 15th and you want to know 310 days, subtract 55 days from May 15th. Going back 30 days puts you at April 15, 15 more days puts you at the end of March, then 10 days from the end march puts you at March 21. Even if you miss a day or 2 you are where you want to be.

I just go back a month from when I bred. If I bred on April 15th, I am officially on baby watch on March 15th. I am pretty comfortable that any baby after or a week before that mark might be dysmature, but will be fine. Anything earlier than that is going to be a problem.

I put my estimated due dates using this same method which put the expected day around 335 days. I go on baby watch 2 weeks prior to this since the majority of my cria's have come between 325 and 345 with some as early as 310 and some over 355.

Hi Susan - My husband created an excel spreadsheet that I use for tracking my alpacas. Included in it, is the calc for number of days. You enter the breeding date and it calculates 350 days as the "due date". It keeps track and tells you how many days you are at. When the birth occurs, you put in the date and it provides you with the actual gestation days. I just love it. s If you e-mail me, I'll send it to you -thanks
