We have a smaller adult male that we are considering using for breeding. He's about 26" at the whithers and weighs about 110 pounds. I'm interested in hearing from others who have bred with similar size males and what were the results. What are the chances he will produce normal sized offspring?

Just had one of my gals bred with a tiny guy - I thought he was a yearling. He is small, smaller than any of the girls, and smaller than my normal sized yearlings. It is my understanding, and others can chime in here, that the size is more determined by the female. That seems to be the case for him as I have a yearling female he threw and she is bigger than him right now and has a way to go before she is done growing.

I bred one of my "normal" sized females to a small male. He wasn't tiny by any means (he had multiple Ch and RCs), but he was definitely "compact." The breeding produced a beautiful female cria with gorgeous fleece and the same lovely compact body as her sire. However, she did not do as well as her father in the show ring - being knocked down in placement at least once based on "not being as well-grown as the animals placing above her." She recently turned two and still is not much larger than her maternal half-siblings were as yearlings (she's sturdy and well-proportioned, but short). It remains to be seen if she'll grow much larger, and she's still a beautiful animal with gorgeous fleece, but if you are breeding for the show ring, or for sale to customers who want a "show" animal, it's something to keep in mind.

Correction to my original post. He's 31" at the whithers. Still very short compared to his barn mates.
