We recently named a few of our alpacas and they have hyphens in their ARI registered name. One of the policies of Alpacanation is that the name must be EXACTLY how it appears on the ARI paperwork. But for some reason, Hyphens are not allowed in the name section.

Why is this??

Travis,

As we have been discussing in another thread under the Category "How should AlpacaNation be improved" found here http://www.alpacanation.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7283, there have been changes to our naming rules to unify our rules with ARI. Unfortunately, more stipulations within the ARI naming rules were discovered after another discussion with ARI Customer Service yesterday. This prompted us to "relax" our rules just a bit in order to allow for the added stipulations we were not aware of beforehand.

All of this said, in an attempt to keep in line with all industry rules we have discovered there will always be inconsistencies no matter how hard we try to eliminate them.

To answer your issue specifically, hyphens or dashes are now allowed within the alpaca name; we were previously told only an apostrophe was allowed. In the future, please contact Customer Service directly at customerservice@alpacanation.com with any questions you might have pertaining to your account; this will allow us to troubleshoot the issue more promptly. Thanks so much!
