With the generations of many alpaca lines steadily increasing, a large portion of the Heritage Makeup is getting much smaller and higher than the two lowest of 1/4 and 1/8 and the two highest options of 7/8 and Full.
I do not want to list an animal as Full when they are 15/16 or 30/32 but I also like to have a correct representation of the animals lineage.
I can understand that there are probably space constraints with adding so many additional heritage options so would it be possible to have an option to manually enter the animals heritage percentages or perhaps a drop down List of Values for the 3 countries of origin?
Thank you for having this venue available for us to express suggestions and request amendments and upgrades, it is definitely appreciated.
Kind regards,
Candi

With a LOT of breeders caring very little about South American countries of origin, and not wanting to list alpacas with a nondescript "other" or "unknown", it's WAY past time that USA be a heritage option. Come on AN, let's get current here!!

I'm not going to get into a heritage debate here, but what harm is there if AN created more extensive country of origin options? Some people are fighting hard right now for a new "U.S." label, which is fine take it. Erasing Peru, Chile, and Bolivia's documentation on animals would do nothing other than dull down specifics, which in my opinion is what makes the Alpaca market so unique and in some way legitimizes us as meticulous researchers/breeders. Attention to detail is what sets breeders and animals apart from others in this industry, and creating a "grey space" could possibly end up doing more harm than good.

I'm in favor of expanding the listing options on AN to at least include 15/16ths. If AlpacaNation is trying to become a one-stop-shop as the digital marketplace for Alpacas, then diving deeper into heritage options would reduce the number of times discriminating breeders have to check backgrounds on ARI; although you should always double check before committing to a purchase ; )

3rd post at http://alpacanation.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2549 and http://alpacanation.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3508 add some insight as to why "American" isn't in there. They tried it, but it didn't work.
If they are actually 15/16, or 31/32, you can list 7/8 and note the actual values in the description.

Thanks Rick for those references; Ken Halley outlined it best I think, and I completely agree with those reasonings.
