Hello All: I think we all have experienced concrete floors at some show venues that were very slick resulting in spread eagle alpacas. Not a great way to prepare them to show!
In the past I have seen granular material spread on the floors which improved the footing immensely. When I asked what the product was I have been told "No Skid", "No Slip", "Sure Foot" and other permutations. I have been unsuccessful in finding any such products by those or other names.
Does anyone know of such products, the name(s), and source?
Thanks in advance.

Contact Brian Cole at Vermont Alpaca Company The Vermont show in late October always had an issue w/ slippery floors..this year they are using a no-slip substance at the venue and I'm sure he'll tell you what it is called!

Barry, If you are using it for yourself you can paint your floors and mix silicone sand in the paint, it will give you a much better surface than plain cement.
If you are putting in a cement floor ask them the finish it with a textured finish instead of a smooth finish.

The product used to improve traction on concrete arena floors is AFG 10-40 limestone. I have never used this as we are blessed with an arena for the MABA show with a grooved concrete floor.
Brian Cole of the Vermont Alpaca Company sent the information to me including source information. If anyone wants to contact that company please email me separately.

P.S. Please let me know how it works if you try it.

Barry, I was at the Vermont show, and I was not impressed by the traction aid. This was my first time at the show, though, and others told me that it did help some. The concrete floors were still very, very slippery, even with the limestone (which, to warn you, looks like ground glass!) One thing the show did was to put down rubber stall mats to make laneways in the high traffic areas, and then they sold the mats at a discount. Honestly, it might be more cost effective to use throughout for such a small venue as the MABA show hall, if you knew you could sell all the mats.

I thought the Vermont show floors were a HUGE improvement over previous years... the trick was making sure it didn't all get pushed aside from the traffic...the mats along walkways were also a huge improvement.

How can we have all these slippery floors when the show book says that is a no-no. Ken
