Hello, What a beautiful day here in TN. Have any of you done nuno felting and if so how did it turn out? I went over to my daughters this week and got on youtube. I watched a few clips on the process, it looked like something I want to try. The purse I saw was really cool but I'm thinking maybe it's harder than it looks. Any feed back will be great. Thanks, Carol Stone Field alpacas TN

Hi,
My daughter took a class on nuno felting with Wini Labrecque at the Empire Symposium last year and the project they did was scarf. It was a great first project. It came out well and Helen was proud of it. I've made a couple of scarves and they were fun for sure. It was harder than it looked really a lot of physical effort to get it to work. The first one I tried I didn't work it for long enough you really have to work it to get it to felt through.

Wow, I thought for sure everyone would be trying nuno. I looked on youtube at my daughters, I was surprised at how beautiful the items were. I saw a purse I just loved. Thanks Ann for your feed back. I still plan to order some felting supplies from you. I'm just trying to get my ducks in a row.

Carol,
I am not sure where you are in TN, but I am in Riceville, between Knoxville and Chattanooga. I love to nuno felt and would be happy to have you as a student if you so desire. Nuno felting is fun, creative, and a little messy at times but is a great way to showcase the beauty of alpaca fiber. This time of year, felted items are great gifts! Send me an e-mail if you are interested.
P.S. Following some admin. assist., this is my first post... graduating from being "only" an AN forum reader for YEARS. Nice to participate finally, and a little "scary".

Brenda, I think it would be great to be your student. I'm not real good at crafting but this looks like something I may be able to learn. I've raised alpacas for 5 yrs now but this is my first yr. to use the fiber. Thanks for taking the time to write your first post and don't be scared. We're all here to help each other out when we can. Carol :-) Stone Field Alpacas Parrottsville,TN |

Hi Carol, Nuno felting is fun and is quite physical. I generally use merino along with the alpaca. Alpaca does felt and felt well but it takes longer than merino, which felts up quite fast. We often set up tables in the barn as we have concrete floors, but if you do it in the house a tarp on the floor works well. Have fun! Marcia MacDonald Long Plains Alpacas Buxton, Me. |

Hi,
A wet-felting method where you take fiber (alpaca works well) and work it through some sheer fabric like silk. I've heard it is originally Japanese but I don't know for sure.

Robin, If you can get on youtube.com you can watch videos of nuno felting. Just type in nuno felting in the search. I can't wait to give it a try. Right now I have no roving to get started with but I hope to soon. Oh ya, to look at some nuno felted finished products you can go to esty.com, again type in nuno felt. I just took a class on this recently. It was the first thing I have done to try to do something creative with my alpaca fiber. It was really fun and the product came out great. I also did a scarf, actually we did 2. One was with the silk fabric and the other was with alpaca batting. You just take a thin layer from the bat roll and roll it out just like you do the silk scarf, than add, fiber, yarn, fabric, the sky is the limit, and it is sooo soft! (she also gave me a quick lesson on dying fiber with kool aid to get the great colors you can use on the scarfs) I am going to get this down really well than move on to hats and purses. It was so nice to be able to actually create something myself from alpaca fiber!
