November 7-8, 2009 - Columbus OH Alpacafest 2009: OABA is pleased to announce our 12th annual Alpacafest, a level V show. We are extending our registration period until Nov. 2nd. This is one of the longest running alpaca shows and has earned a national reputation of being one of the premier shows in the country. We are adding a virtual herdsire row silent auction and a live animal auction to this year's activities! If you can't come to show, come to shop. In addition to the herdsire breeding auction and live animal auction, there will be vendors aplenty, as well as our OABA farm store where items that are handmade from our members will be offered for sale. You can find anything from socks, scarves, gloves, hats & handbags to alpaca paintings & much, much more. The OABA store will be a great place to do your Christmas shopping! Details

November 13-15, 2009 - Saint Mary of the Woods IN Alpaca Fiber Workshop: 7pm on Friday to 11am on Sunday.
* Weaving Alpaca: for those with some experience and a desire to weave a scarf with alpaca yarn.
* Spinning Alpaca: Suri and Huacaya. Learn the feel of spinning these luxury fibers.
* Felting with Sherry Konya: Father Christmas and other 3D figures - make great gifts. (Limit 12 participants for felting class.) ** While you are here, enjoy the peaceful and beautiful atomosphere at the Woods. Take a walk through the organic gardens, by the alpacas and down to the nature trail to view some wildlife.

Description: Learn the basics of alpaca ownership — perfect for potential and new alpaca owners.
This workshop will cover the fundamentals of alpacas, assessing quality of alpaca fleece, utilization of fiber, routine shots, toes, vaccinations, halter basics, equipment and pasture management.
For those who are prospective alpaca owners this is an opportunity to meet and talk with experienced breeders and see firsthand how an alpaca farm functions. For new alpaca owners this is a great time to ask questions that will make your herd safer, your pastures more effective and your fiber use more productive. All-day workshop.
