Enchanted Hill Alpacas
When selecting breeding stock, we kept two points in mind:
(1) Our alpacas must be calm and friendly.
(2) The fiber must be interesting, suitable for spinning, & a delight to work with.

Anam Cara

Dark Fawn, 834919, 1/2 Chilean, 1/2 Peruvian

We selected Cara as a month-old baby, then brought her and her dam to our farm as one of our two first crias. In terms of her fiber, she's one of our best. She is also an easily managed animal, breeding and birthing easily, and giving outstanding care to her own crias.

    Pattern, 842062, 1/4 Chilean, 3/4 Peruvian

Spot, as we call Xus, joined our herd in the spring of 2005. He almost immediately settled three of our females.

Update! Twelve beautiful crias have arrived and all look terrific!

Spot's dense fleece is amazingly free of guard hair, and as can be seen from his fiber analysis, the character of his fleece is much like that of a soft cria. When his fiber is spun into yarn, the colors blend to produce a lovely dark fawn color. And talk about how it feels against the skin...Wow!!!

The most special feature of Spot's fleece is his appaloosa pattern. His spots are prominent and numerous--just like we wanted. All of his crias will be special, but those that inherit his spots will be super special and quite unique! Check out his son, Enchanted Hill TyeDye (in our "Sold" list), who not only inherited his father's spots, but his wonderful temperament as well.

Rocky is the first son of his mom, following three sisters, all of whom have grown into beautiful adults. He is extremely calm, learned to lead in a matter of minutes, and loves to check out all the farm visitors. As a weanling, Rocky has terrific conformation and wonderful fiber with nice crimp and staple length, and we believe he has potential as a herdsire.
