Enchanted Hill Alpacas
When selecting breeding stock, we kept two points in mind: (1) Our alpacas must be calm and friendly.(2) The fiber must be interesting, suitable for spinning, & a delight to work with.

Avatar's Abigail

Light Brown, 3/8 Chilean, 5/8 Peruvian

Abigail was born in the early morning of August 3rd, 2006, which was one of our hottest days on record. She was nursing within 10 minutes and playing within 20 minutes. We expect this quick and successful rise to a healthy, playful form to be an indication of an outstanding career in the Enchanted Hill herd.

Abigail hails from two outstanding parents. Her dam, NGG Black Betty, has been an outstanding producer for the Delphi herd, and Betty's full brother(Penumbra) is one of the key herdsires for that herd. Abigail's sire, the well-known Avatar, has done well in shows as well as producing outstanding offspring. In the spring of 2006, Avatar was selected to be in the IAO Elite Herdsire Services Auction. His breeding sold for four thousand, eight hundred dollars.

Updates: At three months of age, Abigail's fiber is looking terrific. It is dense, crimpy, and amazingly lustrous. At 10 months and the first shearing, Abby produced a beautiful fleece.

Riv Snowmass Nova's In The Black
    True Black, 1105995, 5/8 Chilean, 3/8 Peruvian

"The Black" is a beautifully built young herdsire combining two well-known Snowmass lines. His sire, Snowmass Nova, won the 2005 AAF Herdsire of the year award, and has produced many, many offspring that have won ribbons and banners for their outstanding fiber and conformation. Snowmass Nova was a member of the North American Alpaca Stud and is now one of the major players in the herdsire row at Brookhollow Farm.

"The Black's" dam, Snowmass Esperanza, brings to her son the genetics of her sire, Jericho 69I. Jericho was also a part of the North America Alpaca Stud, and his offspring have enabled U.S. and Canadian herds to improve conformation and fiber character in their younger generations.

"The Black" has a rising testosterone level and is ready to start breeding Spring 2008. Even while showing the regal conformation of the males in his pedigree, he is calm and easily managed, characteristics we select for here at Enchanted Hill.

This is a gorgeous little male with great fiber. He is rather calm and curious, and should make a great PR individual as well as a producer of fine fiber. Since his fiber is looking so nice, and his conformation seems to be right on target, "Jimmy", as we call him, is a candidate for becoming a herdsire. With his outstanding pedigree (with grandsires Avatar and Snowmass Nova),even though his price reflects "fiber quality only" Jimmy sells with a completed registration application and DNA card, so that the purchaser may register and use him as a breeder if they so desire.
