Enchanted Hill Alpacas
When selecting breeding stock, we kept two points in mind:
(1) Our alpacas must be calm and friendly.
(2) The fiber must be interesting, suitable for spinning, & a delight to work with.

Abba's Splash Dance

Pattern, 1180510, 1/8 Chilean, 7/8 Peruvian

After checking out every available appaloosa huacaya female, we settled on Splash Dance, an absolutely spectacular girl. We are so happy and proud to have added her to the Enchanted Hill Herd.

Splash Dance, aptly named for the splashes of fawn on her beige fleece, is a lovely young female with loads of color and solid genetics in her background. Her sire is a son of White Out and Peruvian Ginger Snap. Her dam, Golden Delicious, is the daughter of Peruvian Platinum and Colorado Estelene.

Splash's fleece is extremely soft with good staple length and with wonderfully uniform, tiny crimp. At two years of age, she exhibits both good size and bone and will be bred in the fall for a 2007 cria.

Update: Splash is dying to breed. Unless you buy her now, we're going to use Bodacious soon.

  Queen B Bodacious
    Pattern, 30471894, Full Peruvian

Bo is the superlative herdsire we've been waiting on, with all our requirements wrapped into one--great conformation, super fiber, laid-back personality, and an outstanding pedigree. Add to that his wonderful appaloosa spots found scattered from head to toe, and we've got a winner. Oh!!!! If he were just ready to breed! But he's worth the wait.

Bo's dam, Calliope, is from the best-known U.S. herd for producing premier appaloosas--Dewey Meadows. And Calliope just may very well be the best they've ever had. It was a smart move when Becca Black, Queen B Alpacas, purchased Calliope, a first step in creating Bo. Check out Calliope's photos to see the quintessential huacaya, dressed in appaloosa spots.

The next step in the creation of Bo was the selection of his sire, the world-renown Accoyo, Ppperuvian El Moustachio.

Enchanted Hill Solstice Sold!

Genetically, Solstice may be the rarest of rare. Both of his parents are phenotypic Appaloosas, so Solstice has a good chance of being homozygous for the appy gene. With the recent heightened interest in the Appaloosa pattern, this little fellow could be worth his weight in gold! Bred to the right fawns and beiges, one could possibly breed 100% Appaloosas using Solstice. Wow!!!!!!!

Now that we've gawked at the spots and it's associated genes, don't forget to look at conformation and fiber. His sire is "thick as a rug" and his dam is as "soft as a kitten", and it looks as if Solstice has the best of both. He also has great conformation, with that "I'm-going-to-grow-into-a-stud" look.

Appy breeders need to take a long look at this fellow.
